Georgia is in a “waiting mode” regarding a potential reboot in its relations with the United States, on Monday said Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, commenting on the upcoming visit of US Vice President J.D. Vance to Armenia and Azerbaijan.
In his remarks, Kaladze noted that Georgia is an independent, sovereign state and that its sovereignty deserves respect, regardless of the country’s size.
“We are in a waiting mode. We have repeatedly stated that we are ready to reboot relations. The attitude of [former] President Biden’s administration toward Georgia - unfair, based solely on lies, falsehoods, and threats - is categorically unacceptable”, he said.
“We are an independent, sovereign state, and everyone must respect our statehood and sovereignty. It does not matter that we are a small country. We are an independent state; our ancestors and previous generations fought for this. We are still fighting today, and of course, we will do everything to ensure that, first and foremost, the interests of our country and our people are upheld. As for other relations, I repeat once again that we are in a waiting mode”, the official continued.
Kaladze concluded by emphasising that Trump’s main electoral promises were ending the war in Ukraine, and defeating the deep state.
“Today, it is not evident that the war has ended or that the deep state has been defeated. Neither has happened, therefore we remain in a waiting mode”, he said.
