Davit Matikashvili, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules, on Saturday said that repeated accusations and pressure from the Helsinki Commission would have no impact on Georgia, as the public clearly understood the truth.
Matikashvili commented on the Helsinki Commission’s announcement that it planned to hold a briefing on developments in Georgia and what it described as a worsening human rights situation.
In his remarks, Matikashvili noted that Georgia had repeatedly faced slander and misinformation from the Helsinki Commission in the past.
“We have heard many lies and slander from the Helsinki Commission against Georgia before. Radicals who have left Georgia and forces hostile to the country, who are sitting there, constantly try to harm their own homeland. However, the public knows the truth very well”, he said.
He emphasised that Georgian society was well aware of reality and was not misled by external narratives.
“No matter what lies are told at the Helsinki Commission, there is only one truth, and it is absolutely known to the public. Therefore, blackmail, pressure, and coercion will not work against our people and our country”, Matikashvili concluded.
