In a one-year review of Donald Trump’s presidency, the dismantling of what is described as a “corrupt industrial complex” of non-governmental organisations has been named among the administration’s key achievements. The assessment was released by the US Department of State.
Levan Makhashvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s European Integration Committee, on Wednesday said that the exposure of NGO networks under the Trump administration was further proof that the administration’s policies were correct.
“One of the main achievements of Donald Trump’s presidency is that today the world is no longer facing a wasteful and criminal network which, often under the guise of NGOs and with their assistance, sought to sow unrest in other countries, including Georgia”, the Chair noted.
He added that it was welcome for this process not to be limited only to the United States, noting that similar networks now operate on the European continent.
“It would be welcome if, including with US assistance, this network is reduced and dismantled there as well. We have also taken a number of steps to ensure that our statehood is maximally protected from such wasteful or criminal schemes”, Makhashvili concluded.
