Davit Matikashvili, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules, on Tuesday accused Peter Fischer, the German Ambassador to Georgia, of repeatedly making statements that support radicalism and contradict the Vienna Convention and basic diplomatic etiquette.
In his remarks, Matikashvili noted that Georgian society had repeatedly been subjected to baseless criticism from Ambassador Fischer.
“Unfortunately, we have repeatedly heard completely unfounded and baseless criticism of our society from the German Ambassador”, he said.
“Even now, at a time when the European Union is introducing its ambassadors, Peter Fischer is using this platform once again to launch groundless attacks on our society and to cite facts taken out of context that, in reality, never occurred”, Matikashvili concluded.
The EU Delegation to Georgia recently published a video featuring Germany’s Ambassador Peter Fischer as part of a series introducing EU member state ambassadors, their professional backgrounds, and their missions in Georgia.
Fischer used the video to criticise Georgian authorities and accuse the ruling Georgian Dream party of unfair treatment.
