Archil Gorduladze, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee, on Saturday expressed concern over remarks made by Moldova’s Prime Minister Alexandru Munteanu regarding potential reunification with Romania, emphasising the importance of sovereignty and non-interference in internal affairs.
In his remarks, Gorduladze noted that the global political order was undergoing significant change, marked by shifting alliances, evolving interests, and a new international reality.
“We see that the entire world order is changing - new political alignments, a new map and interests, and an entirely new reality on a global scale. Every country has its own interests and internal affairs. That is precisely why we say that no one should interfere in our internal affairs”, he said.
The official underlined that each country had its own national interests, which should remain free from external interference.
“However, when it comes to a country with millennia of statehood, such as Georgia, we cannot imagine how the President or Prime Minister of a sovereign country could say that it needs to unite with another country”, Gorduladze concluded.
Moldova’s Prime Minister, Alexandru Munteanu, recently stated that, as an ordinary citizen, he supports reunification with Romania.
At the same time, he emphasised that as head of Government, he is obliged to respect the will of the majority of Moldovan citizens and to continue pursuing the country’s European integration path.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday expressed concern over the position of Moldova’s authorities regarding the country’s sovereignty, stating that their willingness to relinquish independence raised serious questions.
