Nikoloz Samkharadze, the Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Georgian Parliament, on Tuesday commented on US President Donald Trump’s latest open criticism of the European Union, stressing that restoring US-EU relations will be difficult, especially given recent trends.
In his interview with Imedi TV, Samkharadze expressed hope that these relations would return to their previous level.
“Recently, the US authorities have been increasingly critical of the European Union in various areas, including the suppression of freedom of speech, migration policy, and insufficient funding for security issues”, he said.
“Restoring US-European relations will be quite difficult, especially in light of recent trends, but we hope that these relations will return to their previous level”, Samkharadze concluded.
