Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Tuesday said the country did not need any artificial intervention in its internal affairs, emphasising that Georgia’s future must be decided solely by the Georgian people.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze referenced the recent closure of USAID, NED, and other American funds, warning that informal forces, particularly in Europe, may attempt to influence political processes in Georgia through European funding.
“The USAID, NED, and other relevant funds have closed; this was a decision of the US administration. However, on this backdrop, we see that informal forces, which have excessive influence - specifically in Europe over political processes - are planning to use European funds to achieve the same goals”, he said.
The Prime Minister further underscored Georgia’s clear stance on sovereignty and decision-making.
“We must protect our country from this as much as possible. We do not need any artificial intervention in our internal affairs; the fate of the Georgian state must be decided by the Georgian people in Georgia - this is our very clear position. This is precisely reflected in the laws on transparency, grants, and in Georgian legislation, and naturally, we will fully uphold this principle”, Kobakhidze concluded.
