Irakli Kadagishvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Regional Policy and Self-Government Committee, on Tuesday criticised Moldova’s President Maia Sandu following her statement that she would support Moldova’s reunification with Romania if the issue were put to a referendum.
“This once again shows that we are apparently dealing with ordinary political speculation from the European Union”, he said.
The official contrasted Georgia’s current standing with Moldova’s political discourse, emphasising Georgia’s economic performance and international assessments.
“It turns out that Georgia - which, according to virtually all international research organisations conducted or commissioned by the European Union, is recognised across almost all areas as a successful country with a growing economy and high development priorities - is not considered ready [for European integration]. Meanwhile, with regard to a state whose President declares that she is ready to become part of another state, we hear such speculation”, he noted.
Kadagishvili also recalled the events of October 4, claiming that President Sandu supported actions he characterised as an attempted coup d’état in Georgia.
“This is the same President who on October 4 encouraged and supported a coup d’état in our country. Therefore, it is clearly visible here what patriotism is and what agent activity constitutes”, Kadagishvili concluded.
