Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Thursday said the Government was acting based on two national tasks, the restoration of the country’s territorial integrity and the well-being of the citizens.
Papuashvili responded to the statement of Mamuka Pipia, proposing to conclude an agreement similar to the Treaty of Georgievsk to restore relations between Georgia and Russia.
In his remarks, Papuashvili noted that the key prerequisite for restoring relations with Russia was Moscow’s recognition of Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
“We have our agenda, we have our policy and we follow it. We have two main national tasks - restoring the territorial integrity of the country and ensuring the well-being of the citizens. The main prerequisite for relations with Russia is that it recognises Georgia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. The prerequisites for the restoration of Russian-Georgian relations, with which we have severed diplomatic relations, are known, and our position is expressed in this regard”, he concluded.
