Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Tuesday sharply criticised Marta Kos, the EU Commissioner for Enlargement, over her recent comments regarding the country’s EU accession process.
Papuashvili’s remarks came after Kos said that in order for Georgia to continue its European accession process, the Georgian Government must change its approaches and agenda.
“Who is lecturing us? Not an elected commissioner, a commissioner nobody elected. All appointed commissioners are the result of political consensus, not democratic elections. Yet they tell us how we should listen to our own people - what a laughable attitude. The Government listens to the people. Just two months ago, over 1.1 million citizens gave their vote to the Georgian Dream party”, the Speaker said.
