Levan Machavariani, the First Deputy Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body, on Wednesday accused the radical opposition of lobbying European officials to suspend Georgia’s visa-free travel with the EU.
Machavariani’s comment followed recent information reported by the Georgian media outlet Prime Time that the domestic radical opposition was asking foreign allies in Brussels to suspend visa liberalisation for Georgia by the end of November, convincing high-ranking officials in Brussels that pressure on Georgian Government officials alone would not bring results.
“It is well known to the public that the European bureaucracy, which is completely governed by the informal oligarchic government, the same as the deep state, wants to replace the [ruling] Georgian Dream [party] with their agents in Georgia, since the Georgian Dream [party] does not fulfill their tasks”, Machavariani said.
“We all know their character, we know their intentions. In order to gain power, they are not interested in the people at all. They go to offices and beg the European bureaucrats and try to convince them to suspend visa liberalisation for our citizens, because this will cause such unrest that a revolution will happen in Georgia”, he concluded.
