Nino Tsilosani, an MP for the ruling Georgian Dream party and Vice Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, on Tuesday accused the opposition of deliberately attempting to undermine Georgia’s economic stability, saying that their actions amount to “economic sabotage” against their own country.
In her remarks, Tsilosani noted that one of the destructive tactics used by the opposition was what she described as an “economic terror attack” carried out against their own country.
“On the backdrop of Georgia’s steady economic growth, our opponents are trying on a daily basis to dismantle the country’s economy. One of our opponents’ harmful tactics is a terror attack on the economy, which they are carrying out in their own country, and their tactic is this - to damage and destroy Georgia’s economy”, she said.
Tsilosani further added that members of the opposition were trying to harm Georgia’s image internationally and portray the country as unsafe to foreign investors and tourists.
She noted that the anti-campaigns directed against the Anaklia and energy projects, as well as calls to disconnect Georgia from SWIFT, sanction Georgian banks, and impose sanctions on Russia, were all aimed at destabilising and undermining the national economy.
The Vice Speaker also highlighted that opponents were making false assessments regarding the six-and-a-half-billion investment in the “Eagle Hills” project.
“This is an unprecedented investment since the restoration of Georgia’s independence, one that can create several thousand new jobs. Georgian Dream enjoys the unconditional trust of the Georgian people, and this trust is reflected not only in elections but also in the support for major projects such as Eagle Hills, the Anaklia project, and other upcoming initiatives that Georgian Dream will implement”, Tsilosani concluded.
