Prime Time, the Georgian media outlet, on Monday reported that the domestic radical opposition was asking foreign allies in Brussels to suspend visa liberalisation for Georgia by the end of November.
The opposition was also convincing high-ranking officials in Brussels that pressure on Georgian Government officials alone would not bring results.
It has become known that Brussels is discussing the restriction of visa-free travel only for the leaders of the ruling Georgian Dream party.
According to a source from Brussels, the European Union believes that Government representatives may be intimidated by imposing certain restrictions on them, but in turn, the opposition is convincing European bureaucrats that this step alone will have zero effect on the leadership of the Georgian Dream party.
In turn, European bureaucrats, on the contrary, consider this position as an argument against suspending visa liberalisation and say that if the Georgians overcome the suspension of visa liberalisation and do not change the Government in this case, it will become practically impossible to sway them and Europe will be forced to talk to the current Government.
