Levan Makhashvili, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on European Integration, on Friday criticised a letter sent by several US Senators and Congressmen to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, calling it an attempt to discredit the Georgian Government with false accusations and obstruct efforts to reset Georgia-US relations.
In his remarks, Makhashvili argued that the correspondence misrepresented facts and was undermining ongoing diplomatic efforts to strengthen bilateral relations between Georgia and the United States.
“Everyone in Georgia is free to conduct their work. However, it must be transparent and compliant with the law. When certain actions bypass the law, the relevant authorities naturally respond accordingly. Otherwise, this letter serves only to discredit the Georgian Government with false accusations and to hinder the reset of Georgia-US relations. It cannot have any other purpose or effect”, he said.
