Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday said that not only the Georgian Government, but also the Georgian people were strongly pro-Western.
In his interview with TRT World, Kobakhidze noted that his Government was doing everything to maintain a positive attitude towards the European Union in the Georgian public, despite what he described as unfair actions by the European bureaucracy..
“We are essentially pro-Western, both as a Government and as a people. If we look at public opinion polls, unfortunately, the recent actions of the European bureaucracy have somewhat shaken people’s trust in the European Union, but support is still very high and we are doing everything to maintain this mood in Georgian public, to maintain a positive attitude towards the European Union, despite all these unfair actions of the European bureaucracy. That is why we can boldly say that not only the Georgian Government, but also the Georgian people are sharply pro-Western. We are part of Western culture, we are part of European culture. That is why we have a very clear vision in this regard”, the PM said.
He further emphasised that if the European bureaucracy changed its attitude towards Georgia, everything could be fixed and the country could finally become a full-fledged member of the European Union by 2030, which in his opinion was quite realistic.
