Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday highlighted his Government’s readiness to reboot its strategic partnership with the United States, presenting a clear and concrete plan, while patiently awaiting Washington’s response despite ongoing concerns over unresolved sanctions.
In his interview with TRT WORLD, Kobakhidze noted that his Government produced very clear statements regarding cooperation with the United States.
“We say - and I have personally emphasised several times - that we are ready to restore our strategic partnership with the United States from a clean slate, with a very clear and concrete plan”, the PM said.
Kobakhidze further added that the previous US administration had been extremely aggressive toward the Georgian people and, consequently, toward the Georgian Government.
“The Biden administration decided to suspend the strategic partnership with Georgia following President Trump’s election, shortly before the inauguration. Once again, it is in our interest to restore the strategic partnership with the United States, and we are patiently awaiting their position on this matter. We are optimistic”, he continued.
“Of course, we are somewhat concerned that the sanctions have not been lifted and that there is, generally, a certain silence from the US regarding Georgia. We are somewhat concerned, but still optimistic. Our proposal is on the table. Our proposal is the restoration of the strategic partnership, and we will patiently await their response”, the PM concluded.
