Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Thursday commented on the Chandler Institute’s ranking, which places the Government of Georgia among the top three in Europe, highlighting that according to all assessments made without political bias, “Georgia is, of course, among the leading countries by every criterion”.
In his remarks, Kaladze noted that once political narratives were introduced, false statements emerged claiming that “Georgia is backsliding democratically”.
“By every non-political assessment, Georgia is a leading country by all criteria - implementation of reforms, economic development, ease of doing business, transparency, and so on. However, as soon as political narratives appear, false statements begin to circulate against the country, suggesting that Georgia is backsliding in terms of democracy”, he said.
“And who makes these statements? The same people who used to call the pre-2012 regime a ‘beacon of democracy’, while portraying today’s reality as democratic decline. That’s the reality. People see and evaluate everything themselves - they feel the difference between the past and the present. Consequently, public opinion is expressed in elections and the choices made there”, Kaladze concluded.
