Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday criticised European bureaucracy for its handling of Georgia-related matters, asserting that the country stands out among EU candidate nations.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze underscored Georgia’s leadership among candidate countries across multiple dimensions, including governance, human rights, economic growth, and anti-corruption measures.
“The situation created within the European bureaucracy is tragic, and Ms. [Marta] Kos’ statements reflect this. Georgia is a leading, outstanding country among candidate countries in every respect - in terms of democracy, human rights, economic development, and low levels of corruption. In all areas, Georgia stands out as a leader among candidate countries. This is today’s reality”, he said.
The Prime Minister also referenced European reactions to domestic protests, specifically noting that the European Commission spokesperson had publicly supported the October 4 protest, which he implied reflected a biased stance.
“Regarding European bureaucracy, the European Commission’s spokesperson openly supported the October 4 protest. That is a fact. Beyond that, Georgian society is very capable of forming its own judgments. Even today, some continue to address the Georgian people. The Georgian people have clearly expressed their will, and I advise everyone to listen carefully to the will of the Georgian people and respect their choice, which was made in October 2024 and again in October 2025. Do not diminish yourselves with lies and speculation, as we have witnessed throughout this entire period”, the PM concluded.
