Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Wednesday said a major breakthrough in relations with the European Union was unlikely at present because, he claimed, the “collective bureaucracy in Brussels” continued to focus on ways to bring the radical opposition back to power.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze noted his Government hoped that the European bureaucracy’s attitude toward the Georgian people would change.
“Today it is naturally very hard to bring any breakthrough into these relations. You can see that the collective bureaucracy in Brussels is obsessed with one thought: how to bring the radical opposition back to power”, the PM said.
“In this situation, of course, it is very difficult even to think about any breakthrough. However, we will wait to see how events unfold. We hope that in the future the European bureaucracy’s attitude toward the Georgian people and toward the Government elected by the Georgian people will change. In that case, of course, it will be possible to achieve a breakthrough in relations”, he concluded.
