David Matikashvili, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules, on Wednesday claimed that the European Union’s latest enlargement report was filled with “shameless, deceitful, and anti-Georgian rhetoric”.
In his remarks, Matikashvili noted that the report represents an attempt to pressure Georgian society with false claims.
“The report is so inconsistent and full of so-called facts and arguments detached from reality that it gives the impression that everything is being done to discourage Georgians from pursuing the country’s European future. It is a lie that Georgia failed to support pro-Ukrainian resolutions or acted against common European initiatives. The entire report is falsified - we can directly call it a fake report. This is an attempt to use a fabricated document to pressure our society”, the Parliament official said.
Matikashvili added that what is most surprising and shameful for those who authored the report is that, within the European Union itself, numerous other documents about Georgia acknowledge the country’s significant progress.
“This is a fake report. It is an attempt to put pressure on our public with a fake report. The most surprising and shameful thing for those who wrote this report is that within the European Union, along with the European Commission report, a lot of information about Georgia has been published, where our country has made great progress and, in many cases, Georgia ranks not only on par with EU candidate countries but even higher than some member states. Yet, this is barely mentioned - and often not mentioned at all”, he concluded.
