Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Wednesday issued a stark criticism of the European Union, asserting that there was only one violent side during the unrest on October 4 - “radicals supported by Brussels”.
In a social media message, Papuashvili dismissed any notion of shared blame.
“The deliberate refusal of the EU Ambassador to unequivocally condemn the violent storming of the Presidential Palace exemplifies Brussels's regression in values and its anti-democratic trajectory”, the Speaker said.
He further rejected the narrative suggesting multiple parties should have refrained from violence.
“There was no “everyone” who should have refrained from violence on October 4. There was only one violent side - the radicals supported by Brussels. Condemning them would be condemning themselves. This is the real reason for the failure to condemn”, Papuashvili concluded.
