Levan Machavariani, the First Deputy Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body, on Tuesday expressed hope that by 2030 the situation in the European Union would change drastically and common sense would prevail there, in response to the journalist's question regarding the European Commission's upcoming enlargement report.
In his remarks, Machavariani claimed that specific European bureaucrats could not cite facts while making critical statements about the Georgian Dream party, adding they had no evidence and only spoke with perceptions.
“When specific European bureaucrats make critical statements about the Georgian Dream [party], they cannot cite facts, they have no evidence, and they only speak with perceptions. The discussion about whether the 2024 [parliamentary] elections were legitimate or not has not ended to this day. Of course, they were legitimate. The source of our legitimacy is the Georgian people. The OSCE/ODIHR report on the 2024 parliamentary elections was positive. The European bureaucrats did not prepare this report, therefore, they did not take it into account. You remember well the campaign that the European bureaucrats waged to smear the OSCE/ODIHR, as if it were a corrupt organisation bribed by us. Naturally, such claims persist as long as opposition leaders, who flagrantly violated the law, refuse to recognize elections and disrespect our sovereignty, are labeled ‘political prisoners,’”, Machavariani said.
“We have great hope that by 2030, the year of EU enlargement, the situation will be radically different. We are confident that just as common sense prevailed in the United States, over the next five years the European Union will also succeed, and reason will triumph. In reality, the EU will return to the values for which we have been striving”, he concluded.
