Levan Machavariani, the First Deputy Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body, on Tuesday said an unprecedented investment was entering Georgia, but the domestic opposition forces were attempting to obstruct it.
Machavariani’s comments came after the statement made by Mamuka Khazaradze, the leader of the opposition Lelo party, who said that “we are categorically against the establishment of two enclaves in Georgia. The construction of cities by Arabs in the Krtsanisi Forest Park and Gonio goes against national interests”, in reference to the large-scale investment project by the UAE Eagle Hills.
“They clearly understand that such investments will attract the attention of others who may also want to come to Georgia and implement similar projects. This will serve as a signal to major groups that Georgia provides a favourable environment for investment. Thirty-three percent of the profit will belong to the [Georgian] state, the workforce must consist of Georgians, and construction materials must be purchased from Georgian companies”, Machavariani noted.
“The opposition is talking about some kind of Arab settlements, but in reality, these will be multifunctional complexes, and many investors will come to our country”, he concluded.
