Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Thursday once again extended his gratitude toward the voters of the Georgian Dream party, with whose support the party had won municipal mayoral elections in the first round and gained a majority in all municipal councils.
In his remarks, Papuashvili noted the local self-government elections held on October 4 once again demonstrated the political wisdom of the Georgian people and their commitment to the country’s future.
“Newly elected mayors and city councils have begun work in 64 municipalities across Georgia. The local self-government elections held on October 4 once again demonstrated the political wisdom of the Georgian people and their commitment to the country’s future. Once again, I would like to thank the loyal voters of the Georgian Dream. With your support, we were able to win the mayoral elections in all municipalities in the first round and gain a majority in all city councils”, the Speaker said.
He further thanked all voters regardless of political taste, adding that today in different municipalities, in different numbers and configurations, a total of seven parties were represented: Georgian Dream, People's Power, European Socialists, For Georgia, Girchi, Conservatives and Lelo.
“The fact that Lelo and Gakharia's party recognized the results of the elections, which were conducted by the same Central Election Commission, under the same legislation and with the same technology as the 2024 elections, shows how false it was on their part to refuse to accept the results of the parliamentary elections. This is precisely the power of democracy - in the end, no one can escape the will of the people. I wish all mayors and city council members successful work for the benefit of their municipalities”, he concluded.
