Irakli Kirtskhalia, the Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body, on Monday said a constitutional lawsuit on banning certain domestic political parties was ready.
In his remarks, Kirtskhalia noted that Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili would hold a briefing in the Parliament on Tuesday and discuss the lawsuit in detail.
“I can tell you that the work on the constitutional lawsuit has been completed. The lawsuit is ready. After the majority meeting, together with our political partners, we agreed on one thing - that today no statements or explanations would be made from the party office, and we would refrain from discussing the details of the lawsuit. Tomorrow, in the first half of the day - as you know, the parliamentary session week begins tomorrow, and the first plenary sitting will be held - the Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Shalva Papuashvili, will hold a briefing and will speak extensively and in detail about the finalized and fully agreed lawsuit”, Kirtskhalia said.
The constitutional lawsuit aims to declare the United National Movement (UNM) and all affiliated political parties unconstitutional.
The lawsuit is prepared based on the conclusion of the Parliament’s Temporary Investigative Commission, examining crimes committed by the former United National Movement Government between 2003 and 2012.
