Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Monday commented on the preparation of a constitutional lawsuit on banning certain political parties, saying political parties or figures acting under foreign influence should not be allowed to operate in the country.
In his remarks, Kaladze noted that the policies implemented by certain political forces in the past had severe consequences for the country.
“As for the issue of banning parties, you can see what processes are underway. There are political parties in the country that are directed from outside and execute external orders - this is very serious”, Kaladze said.
“Some parties that once held power carried out policies that proved disastrous for Georgia. It was a huge tragedy, the effects of which we still haven’t healed from - take the 2008 war, for instance”, he continued.
The official further added that many questions remained regarding the decisions and policies those former ruling parties had pursued, and those questions required answers.
When asked when the relevant lawsuit will be submitted to the Constitutional Court, Kaladze said an announcement would be made once a final decision is taken.
