Maia Bitadze, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Environment Protection and Natural Resources Committee, on Friday said the domestic opposition was not fighting against the ruling Georgian Dream party but against the country itself.
In her remarks, Bitadze noted that the issue of visa liberalisation with the European Union should not be used as a punitive measure.
“It’s not the first time they’ve tried to hinder the country’s proper development. Their demand to suspend Georgia’s visa-free travel is nothing new. We know they were against the country receiving EU [membership] candidate status and visa liberalisation, trying to deprive Georgia of these achievements. Their current subversive activities will end in failure”, the Parliament official said.
“I am deeply convinced that no tool can be revived against the citizens of Georgia. As for diplomatic passports, an illogical decision has already been made”, she concluded.
