Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Friday sharply criticised the European Union Embassy in Georgia after reports emerged that it had sent a letter to Zviad Tsetskhladze, a convicted individual involved in the violent protests.
“When you are an ambassador and you directly encourage violent groups, extremism, and the deepening of polarization, that is very serious”, Kaladze told journalists.
He described the members of the movement as “ordinary radicals”, claiming that certain ambassadors are interfering in Georgia’s internal political processes.
“Some of those ambassadors, who are directly involved in Georgian political activities and can be said to undermine democratic processes, are, of course, part of that violent group. They have their status in our country and do what they are instructed to do”, Kaladze concluded.
