Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday said that Bidzina Ivanishvili, the founder and Honorary Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party, was taking an uncompromising stance on corruption, while the Government was fully committed to eradicating it.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze Kobakhidze recalled Ivanishvili’s return to politics in December 2023, noting that one of his key statements at the party congress at the time focused on the fight against corruption.
“Let me assure you of one thing: Bidzina Ivanishvili has an uncompromising attitude toward corruption. I remind you that in December 2023, when he returned to politics, he made one of his principal statements at the party congress precisely about combating corruption, declaring that the fight against corruption would be a top priority. Some things required time. Last year was very difficult - it was an election year, and there was serious political pressure. Today, however, we are more independent and stronger than ever, and we are able to respond to every challenge. Among these challenges is corruption. When there are continuous attempts to destabilise the country from outside, it ultimately weakens the state - including in the fight against corruption”, the PM said.
“You can examine any government decision, decree, tender, or privatisation process - if you find any sign of corruption, we will respond accordingly. For two years now, no such cases have been presented. This means we have taken radical steps to eliminate corruption - exactly as Bidzina Ivanishvili promised in December 2023. I personally take full responsibility for ensuring that we do everything possible to eradicate corruption in our country. That is a proven fact”, Kobakhidze concluded.
