Irakli Kirtskhalia, the Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body, on Tuesday said German Ambassador Peter Fischer set an example to the world of what a diplomat should not be like.
In his remarks, Kirtskhalia claimed that instead of improving relations between Georgia and Germany, Fischer became a member of the United National Movement party.
“This person has given the world an example of what a diplomat should not be. Instead of doing everything he can to warm up relations between the two countries and to build constructive relations, he has instead become a member of the [United] National Movement. This person is a clear example of anti-diplomacy”, Kirtskhalia said.
The German Foreign Ministry has recalled its Ambassador to Georgia for consultations.
Questions about Peter Fischer’s activities and controversial actions have already arisen in Germany. The issue is being investigated by the country’s most popular and highly rated party, Alternative for Germany (AfD), which is seeking answers from the Foreign Ministry.
