Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Friday said that the planned reform of Georgia’s education system, discussed by the Prime Minister during a recent presentation, was very important, and the key was its proper implementation.
In his remarks, Kaladze highlighted education as one of the country’s serious challenges, noting that the reform is somewhat delayed.
“The reform is very important, slightly delayed, but what matters most is that it is implemented. The Prime Minister spoke in detail about the challenges and what needs to be done in the coming years”, he said.
“I believe we all agree that this is one of the country’s serious challenges. Therefore, for our children and future generations, we must do everything to ensure they have the opportunity to receive a quality education. Equally important is that we apply the knowledge of educated people for the development of our country, to create greater prosperity in Georgia and drive economic growth. This requires educated, successful young people”, the official continued.
Kaladze concluded by emphasising that implementing the education reform as outlined by the Prime Minister - who also highlighted that public communication on the issue would continue - is critically important.
During the presentation of the education reform project, the Georgian Prime Minister on Thursday announced the necessity of “drastic, fundamental steps” toward university reform to establish a “qualitatively different system of higher education” in the country, one that aligns with modern international standards.
Regarding the implementation of the new project, the Government head stated that the document would undergo public discussion before taking its final shape.
