Levan Machavariani, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Wednesday said that European bureaucrats fail to understand the Georgian nation’s history, character, and identity.
In his remarks, Machavariani noted that “about 17 centuries ago, Georgians identified themselves with their spiritual journey, and that is when our national identity was formed”.
“It is based on our homeland, language, and faith - and we defend these values to the end. They are in our blood, an inseparable part of our genetic code. Our history has shaped both our national character and our role in the world. Let them take a closer look at our past - we are a nation with a continuous three-thousand-year-old lineage. Our character is that of fighters, and our historic role has always been the struggle for freedom and independence”, Machavariani said.
He further added that this very spirit of unity was evident ahead of the recent elections, when more than 1.1 million supporters participated in the local elections.
“They voted for Georgia. A vote for the Georgian Dream party means a vote for the independence and sovereignty of our country, for peace in Georgia, and for the preservation and strengthening of our identity, traditions, and culture. Therefore, my dear compatriots and patriots, I promise you: as long as you stand with us, it is impossible for us to stop. Not a single step to the right, not a single step to the left - and certainly not a step backward - only forward, toward greater independence, sovereignty, and success”, he concluded.
