Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Monday said the outcome of the recent local elections confirmed, through the citizens’ mandate, that all political and legal decisions made by the Government had the support of the Georgian people - including the laws adopted over the past year.
In his remarks, Papuashvili expressed satisfaction that the ruling Georgian Dream party had repeated the results of the 2024 parliamentary elections in terms of citizens’ support.
“With these elections, the citizens’ mandate reaffirmed that every political and legal decision of the Government enjoys the backing of our people - absolutely every decision, including the laws passed during the past year. This is democracy. The people’s word is paramount. Power comes from the people, and through this year-long electoral cycle, the people have once again entrusted their mandate to the current Government”, the Speaker said.
“I would like to congratulate everyone and the entire country on the successful local self-government elections. It is important that this concludes the election cycle - last year with the parliamentary elections, then with the presidential election, and this year, on October 4, with the local-government elections. All elective constitutional bodies have been formed and there is an opportunity for the country to fully concentrate on the development plans that were presented by the winning team during both the parliamentary and local self-government elections for the next three years”, he continued.
Papuashvili emphasised that over 1.1 million citizens voted for the Georgian Dream party, effectively matching the party’s parliamentary election results and surpassing its performance in the 2021 local elections.
