Irakli Kirtskhalia, the Chair of the ruling Georgian Dream party faction in the legislative body, on Monday announced that the ruling team would file a lawsuit prepared based on the conclusion of the Parliament’s Temporary Investigative Commission, examining crimes committed by the former United National Movement Government between 2003 and 2012, with the Constitutional Court in the near future.
In his remarks, Kirtshalia noted that working on the text of the lawsuit was almost complete.
“You all remember one of our key pre-election promises - the establishment of an investigative commission. The commission was formed, and the Georgian people watched its work live on air, including many young people who weren’t even born or didn’t witness the racketeering, bloodshed, and dictatorship that United National Movement carried out while in power - and continues to do so today, disguised under the mantle of the so-called opposition”, Kirstkalia said.
He noted that the investigative commission produced a “very serious conclusion” and emphasised that the ruling party had previously pledged to prepare a Constitutional Court lawsuit based on that report.
“We promised our society that, based on the commission’s findings, a lawsuit would be prepared for submission to the Constitutional Court. Our citizens will once again be able to follow the proceedings live as they unfold in court. The text of the lawsuit is almost complete, and in the near future, it will be filed with the Constitutional Court”, he concluded.
