Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili on Sunday said the European Union’s stance toward Georgia needed fundamental change, highlighting concerns over fairness in EU-Georgia relations.
In her interview with Imedi TV, Botchorishvili noted that “this attitude must be fair when we talk about bilateral relations, which at the moment we do not see”.
“What needs to change in the European Union is, first and foremost, its attitude. This attitude must be fair when we talk about bilateral relations, which at the moment we do not see. The current approach is not fair toward Georgia. The needs and priorities of Georgia in its relationship with the EU must be shared and understood”, the FM said.
Botchorishvili further criticised what she described as a “childish policy of stubbornness” promoted by Brussels.
“Today, there are more voices within the EU who do not share this approach and do not consider the policy of stubbornness successful. WhenBrussels refuses to engage in dialogue with Tbilisi, nothing can be achieved. I am confident that this will change, and it must change”, she continued.
“I am convinced that at some point this will change and it must change. Recently, there has been more frequent dialogue with European countries, and more countries and capitals are realising that such an approach toward a country is not acceptable. I hope that more capitals will start to question the correctness of Brussels’ policy”, Botchorishvili concluded.
