Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Saturday expressed his Government’s commitment to rebooting relations with the United States from a clean slate, emphasising the need for a specific roadmap and effective steps to strengthen bilateral ties, particularly in light of discussions surrounding the MEGOBARI Act.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze underscored his Government’s proactive stance in seeking to rebuild US relations through a structured plan.
“Regarding the MEGOBARI Act, it is significant that this process unfolded in this way. We have publicly declared our desire to reset relations with the US from a clean slate and with a specific roadmap. Such relations facilitate resetting ties, and the key is that effective steps are taken in this direction. We will patiently await the position of the American side”, the PM said.
The United States Senate on Friday passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for 2026 with 77 votes in favor and 20 against, after removing the reference to the MEGOBARI Act related to Georgia.
It is noteworthy that the MEGOBARI Act, which was prepared against Georgia, has been removed from the legislative package and has not been adopted at this stage.
