Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili on Friday said presenting a perpetrator as a hero was precisely the justification of modern liberalism, which was based on violence.
Papuashvili responded to the award of the World Press Freedom Hero title to convicted journalist Mzia Amaghlobeli - sentenced to two years for assaulting a police officer.
“The ideology that has dominated the world more or less to this day, I mean modern liberalism, is completely based on violence. Let us recall how Donald Trump had his access to social media cut off, how his accounts were deleted, how they spread disinformation about him in order to silence him, and how he is still being attacked by various mainstream media outlets today in order to silence and stop him”, Papuashvili said.
“We saw exactly this in relation to Georgia, when modern liberalism, through verbal violence - bullying, using the media, which is coordinated from one center, is trying to silence the citizens of Georgia who are speaking the truth. This is one example. Presenting a perpetrator as a hero is precisely the justification of this ideology, since modern liberalism, pseudo-liberalism, is based on violence, and in the name of liberalism, all perpetrators should be rewarded so that others can see that violence is the tool with which they must implement modern liberalism. Presenting a perpetrator as a hero is written into the concept that modern liberalism has”, he concluded.
