Irakli Kadagishvili, the Chair of the Regional Policy and Self-Government Committee of the Georgian Parliament, on Monday said certain European Union representatives were not ready to support democratic processes in Georgia, which, in his opinion, was damaging the idea of the European Union itself.
Kadagishvili responded to the assessments made by individual representatives of the European Union and European bodies regarding the October 4 local self-government elections.
“So far, certain representatives of the European Union are not ready to support democratic processes in Georgia. This damages the idea of the European Union. They are in the process of self-harm. They still remain loyal to the project, which meant bringing the forces they want to power by giving up parliamentary mandates, boycotting the elections, and developing a colorful revolutionary scenario”, Kadagishvili said.
“They suddenly started speculating about the OSCE/ODIHR, saying that they could not arrive in time for the [local elections]. When they were able to attend the previous parliamentary elections, I hope [EU representatives] read the OSCE/ODIHR conclusion and acknowledged it! They also didn't condemn the October 4 coup attempt, although three days ago the European Union spokesperson supported the October 4 overthrow rally”, he concluded.
