Tbilisi Mayor highlights importance of maintaining peace, security in country

Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze on Monday expressed gratitude to the State Security Service of Georgia for its preventive measures, emphasising the importance of preserving peace and security, and noting that certain forces were attempting to stir up tension and unrest in the country through various means.

Kaladze responded to the events that took place in Tbilisi on October 4 and the attempted overthrow of the government.

In his remarks, the Mayor highlighted that there was no place in politics for violent individuals and criminals.

“Over the past few months, we have witnessed very interesting developments. Let us wait for the investigation outcome. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the relevant agency for its preventive actions because it is extremely important to maintain peace and security in our country. We know that the enemy does not rest and is constantly trying, through various methods, to bring tension and disorder into Georgia. Just a few days ago, there was an attempted coup. Therefore, we must continue to live with great caution. Once again, I thank every employee of the State Security Service for their dedicated work”, the official said.

He further added that radicals were members of an agent network - criminals and violent people.

“These dishonorable, immoral, and unprincipled individuals - few though they are - have been created through external funding. It took years and significant resources to produce such people. Violent individuals and criminals will all be held accountable. They have no place in politics. A few days ago, we witnessed a specific example of an attempted coup and the violent overthrow of the constitutional order, and there will certainly be a response. Many people will be held responsible for this”, the Mayor continued.

Kaladze further stressed that attempts by organisers of the October 4 rally to distance themselves from recent events would fail, as all actions and statements had been documented.

“They will not succeed, because everything has been recorded - their statements and specific actions. No matter what they claim, this is one violent group that may operate under different names but has a single master and carries out one mission in various forms. We had warned them. No one can say they were not cautioned. These are our citizens, for better or worse, and they live in this country. As the authorities, we warned everyone in advance not to take illegal actions. Some went ahead anyway - and there will be consequences”, he concluded.
