David Matikashvili, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party and Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Committee on Procedural Issues and Rules, on Monday said “all those who raised their hand against their own country and attempted to seize power illegally will be held accountable before the state and the people”.
Matikashvili responded to the events that took place in Tbilisi on October 4 and the attempted overthrow of the government.
The Parliament official stressed that those who were openly speaking about their plans to overthrow the government, had overthrown themselves.
“Before October 4, ahead of the [local] elections, they were openly speaking about their plans to overthrow the government. In reality, these people have overthrown themselves. They have practically jeopardised their own future, because the state will be uncompromising toward such a grave crime - and the authorities had warned everyone about this”, he said.
“All those who raised their hand against their own country, their society, and law enforcement, who tried to seize power illegally and violently, will naturally be held accountable before the state and the people”, Matikashvili concluded.
