Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday said that during his visit to Copenhagen, he had the opportunity to hold direct discussions with over 30 leaders, with the central topic of these conversations being Georgia’s national interests, as well as the need to review and reassess relations between Georgia and the European Union.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze noted it was interesting that several leaders expressed their readiness to reconsider relations and open a discussion on all topics concerning Georgia’s aspiration towards the European Union.
“We concluded our visit. It was an interesting format - we had bilateral meetings, including with the Secretary General of the Council of Europe and the Secretary General of the OSCE. I also delivered remarks at a panel discussion, where we touched upon economic and connectivity issues. But the most important part was the chance to have direct exchanges with over 30 leaders”, the PM said.
“We spoke with all of them about our national interests, the necessity of reviewing Georgia-EU relations, and the prospects for the future. It is noteworthy that a number of leaders demonstrated openness to revisiting these relations and starting discussions on all matters tied to Georgia’s path towards the EU. This gives us very positive signals”, he noted.
Kobakhidze underlined that Georgia stands fully prepared for open, transparent, and public discussions with EU institutions, emphasizing that such dialogue is essential to strengthen relations.
“Resetting relations was one of the main issues we raised, and there were also initiatives from their side on this matter. While I cannot go into details regarding the closed-door conversations, it is encouraging that we saw positive momentum. Now we must wait and see how events develop. Our top foreign policy priority remains Georgia’s integration into the European Union, and this process cannot advance without a healthy and open dialogue. We reaffirm our readiness for such a discussion on every topic concerning our European path”, he concluded.
