Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday reminded citizens of their right to gather peacefully while warning against any form of violence or violation of the law ahead of the opposition’s rally scheduled for the election day on October 4.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze noted that as soon as the law is violated, a strict legal response will follow immediately.
“Everyone has the right to peaceful assembly, to gather and express their views - this will be fully guaranteed on October 4 as well. At the same time, I want to warn everyone not to break the law. The moment the law is violated, there will be an immediate and strict legal response”, the PM said.
Kobakhidze noted that over 30 individuals have already been prosecuted for violence, with penalties ranging from two years to over four years in prison.
“That is why I want to remind everyone: if anyone even attempts to cross the line into illegality, they will face a very tough response under the law. So, in a friendly way, I advise everyone not to risk it - do not resort to violence or lawbreaking. Otherwise, the law will be very strict toward them”, he concluded.
