Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili on Tuesday said the current Georgian Government was standing firmly in defence of the nation’s interests, despite external pressure and accusations from Western actors.
In his interview with the American publication Responsible Statecraft, Kavelashvili emphasised that Georgia was governed by leadership committed to safeguarding national interests and pursuing economic development.
“But today, Georgia has a Government that represents the interests of our people…the same media outlets that accuse us of being under Russian influence tell the same lie about President Trump”, Kavelashvili said.
He also criticised Western media and institutions, claiming they use disinformation campaigns similar to those previously employed against US President Donald Trump.
The President further highlighted the role of USAID, National Endowment for Democracy (NED), and other organisations in the process of mobilising the Georgian opposition, noting that despite this, the Georgian Government remained committed to defending the country’s national interests and ensuring continued economic growth.
