Levan Machavariani, an MP from the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Tuesday issued a stern warning regarding the opposition’s planned activities on October 4, emphasising that any unlawful actions would face a strong response from law enforcement.
In his remarks, Machavariani claimed that the opposition’s declared “peaceful” demonstrations disguise an agenda of destabilisation.
“The word ‘peaceful’ is merely a facade. They intend to bring destabilisation to the country and are once again preoccupied with revolutionary plans”, Machavariani said.
He further alleged that foreign actors, including special services, were involved in coordinating these plans, posing a threat to public order and national stability.
“Foreign special services are involved in this. As we see, instructions in Georgia are being given by Bacho Akhalaia, who is coordinating with foreign special services. We warn everyone once again to be very cautious, as the police will show their real strength to those who attempt to go beyond the bounds of the law”, he concluded.
Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Monday vowed that no attempts at revolutionary upheaval in the country would succeed.
Speaking to journalists, Kobakhidze said that foreign intelligence services were working with tried-and-tested methods aimed at stirring unrest in Georgia.
