Mariam Lashkhi, the Chair of the Georgian Parliament’s Education, Science, and Youth Affairs Committee, on Friday said the ruling Georgian Dream party would secure a convincing victory in the upcoming local self-government elections scheduled for October 4.
In her interview with Imedi TV, Lashkhi criticised the domestic opposition’s calls for revolution, claiming such rhetoric only accelerated their political downfall.
“On October 4, the ruling Georgian Dream party will win convincingly, and the Georgian people’s choice will be a better future. Those who announce a revolution are paving the way for their own political demise”, Lashkhi said.
The official further stressed that the Government was stronger than ever and fully capable of neutralising both the rhetoric and any specific attempts to destabilise the country.
“We have seen that in previous elections, the Georgian people clearly showed their choice - whether it is overthrow, revolution, or coup, or peace. Even today, [the radical opposition] cannot break free from their main framework and continue to call for revolution, something they probably don’t even believe in themselves, because the state, stronger than ever, is fully capable of neutralising not only such false promises but also any concrete actions”, she said.
“It is unfortunate that we do not hear from the opposition any specific vision or plan regarding the issues that matter to the people. The people are tired of their so-called revolutions; they want to hear about the future of their children. All the issues that our Government discusses every day are precisely about building a policy tailored to the interests of the people”, Lashkhi concluded.
