Georgian PM: Ukraine faces grave circumstances, engaging in polemics with its President would not be right

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Friday said that, given the situation in Ukraine, the fact that President Zelenskyy found time to comment on Georgia spoke volumes, adding that engaging in a debate was not appropriate, as Zelenskyy was the leader of a country at war.
Kobakhidze’s comments came after the Ukrainian President’s remarks at the United Nations, in which Zelenskyy alleged that “we have already lost Georgia in Europe. Human rights and the European nature of the state system are only shrinking there”.
Kobakhidze thanked the Georgian President Mikheil Kavelashvili for a very dignified speech at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, noting that it focused on the key national interests of the country, which were properly represented.
“As for the speech of the President of Ukraine the previous day, I do not want to comment on it. You all know very well how difficult the situation is in Ukraine - not only in terms of the war, but also economically, and in relation to democracy and human rights”, he noted.
“In such a situation, when the leader of that country finds time to speak about Georgia, that speaks volumes. However, I do not wish to enter into a debate with him - he is the leader of a country at war, and therefore, I do not believe it would be right to engage in a debate with him”, the PM concluded.
