For the first time since the 1990s, Georgia has recorded a single-digit poverty rate, which stood at 9.4% last year, Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze announced on Friday during his speech at a Business Association Conference.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze noted that, while challenges remain in this area, current trends and progress make it possible to discuss the complete eradication of poverty in Georgia in the medium term.
“These results have a solid foundation. We have a well-structured economic policy, a proper liberal tax system, and a free business environment - one of the most significant achievements since 2012. The Government is doing everything possible to provide comprehensive support to businesses”, the PM said.
“At the same time, proper management is essential, and I believe that high-level management is ensured within the relevant government bodies”, he concluded.
