Kakha Kaladze, the Mayor of Tbilisi and Secretary General of the ruling Georgian Dream party, on Thursday delivered a sharp rebuke to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, telling him to focus on Ukraine’s affairs and leave Georgia alone.
Kaladze’s comments came in direct response to a statement by President Zelensky during his address at the UN General Assembly, where he claimed that “we have already lost Georgia in Europe”, citing a deterioration of “human rights and the European nature of statehood”.
In his remarks, Kaladze demanded that the Ukrainian leader stop interfering in Georgian matters.
“Everyone should leave Georgia alone. Zelensky should mind his own country and speak about what he has lost, what he has done to his own people and country”, the ruling party official said.
He went on to directly criticise the Ukrainian President’s role in the ongoing conflict.
“The great misfortune that is happening in Ukraine today is with his direct participation and involvement. Time will pass, and of course, he will definitely have to answer for this”, Kaladze noted.
He further stressed that Georgia was capable of managing its own destiny.
“They should leave our country and the Georgian people alone. We will take care of our country, we will protect the peace, and we will achieve the economic development of the country”, he concluded.
