Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday expressed hope that relations between Georgia and the United States could be rebooted if the deep state was defeated.
In his remarks, Kobakhidze noted that unchanged attitudes toward Georgia signal that the deep state remains strong.
“When it comes to democracy, human rights, economic policy, and all measurable parameters where rankings and indexes evaluate countries according to specific criteria, we are absolute leaders. The rest is politics - specific political interests. We have our national interests, and as you can see, we fully defend them, both politically and economically”, the PM said.
“Regarding the United States, we hope relations will be rebooted if the deep state is defeated in this struggle between the deep state and the Trump administration. In that case, relations will improve. If the deep state wins, difficulties will continue. Still, we are accustomed to challenges. In every scenario, we will defend our national interests to the fullest and see how processes unfold”, he continued.
Kobakhidze further added that the Georgian Government could not settle the matter with the deep state following refusal to open a second front in the country amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.
“They had their representative come to the Government Administration and directly requested, once or twice, to open the second front. We refused, and since then it has been difficult to normalise relations with the deep state. For us, the main goal is to reboot relations and renew the strategic partnership. We await this with patience”, he concluded.
