Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze on Thursday said Georgia was the unquestionable leader among European Union membership candidate countries in terms of democracy and human rights.
Kobakhidze responded to the Ukrainian President’s remarks at the United Nations, in which Zelenskyy alleged that “we have already lost Georgia in Europe. Human rights and the European nature of the state system are only shrinking there”.
“I do not wish to enter into a polemic with Volodymyr Zelenskyy. He is the President of a country at war, and therefore, regardless of his statements, I do not find it necessary to react. Regarding the situation in democracy and human rights, Ukraine is in a tragic state in both respects’, the PM said.
“When such issues are raised about Georgia in this context, it is nonsensical. Georgia is the unquestionable leader among EU membership candidate countries, particularly in democracy and human rights. We stand far above all other candidate countries in these areas”, he concluded.
